Community forestry depends on women

Marilyn W. Hoskins

One of the first articles in Unasylva written by a woman, and the first full-length article to address women’s contributions to forestry.

Marilyn W. Hoskins wrote this article while working as a sociologist at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, United States. She was subsequently appointed head of FAO’s first unit devoted to community forestry, becoming a world leader in this field. This article was derived from an address to an FAO/India seminar on “The role of women in community forestry and rural development”, Dehra Dun, India, December 1980.
