Animal genetics

Countries

Over recent years countries have been invited to prepare a number of reports on the management of their animal genetic resources: as part of the reporting process for the first report on The State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; during the first round of reporting on the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resources; and as part of the reporting process for The Second Report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and AgricultureFor further information, see Reporting system.

In order to translate the provisions of the Global Plan of Action into well-targeted measures at national level, a number of countries have developed national strategies and action plans for animal genetic resources, are in the process of doing so or are planning to develop an instrument of this type. Advice on the preparation of national strategies and action plans is provided in a guideline publication.
