Monitoring of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

The reporting system for plant genetic resources includes indicators for monitoring the implementation of the 18 priority areas of the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

The agreed framework measures progress towards three targets for plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (conservation; sustainable use; institutional and human capacities) through three Higher-order Composite Indices. The indices are based on expert judgement (National Focal Points rating) on the level of achievement for each of the indicators.

The status of the conservation, sustainable use and breeding of plant genetic resources was assessed through 63 indicators in 2014 and 58 indicators in 2019.Information for all indicators is collected through the World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (WIEWS) Reporting Tool.

More information is provided in the Assessment of the implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture 2012-2014.
