This high-level event will engage nations and international organizations to discuss how to enhance FAO’s work in nutrition in order for it to catalyze the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of the Strategic Framework 2022–31

Raising levels of nutrition offers one of the greatest developmental opportunities in the world today. Reducing wasting, stunting, underweight, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight, obesity and diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has the potential to contribute to reaching targets across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, a major challenge for improving nutrition is the inadequacy of current diets. According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2021, billions of individuals are unable to afford and access healthy diets.

FAO Members have called for more action to reach the ambitious goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by enabling a transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind. Given FAO’s unique comparative advantage and leadership role across agri-food systems, FAO also has a leading role in promoting and enabling access to healthy diets needed for advancing all the Organization’s aspirations of the four betters.
