Out now: "Stories of agrifood systems change"!

26/07/2024

FAO's Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division (ESF) is excited to announce the release of its latest publication, Stories of agrifood systems change. Insights from Côte d’Ivoire, Cambodia, the Pacific, Guatemala, and Albania!

This comprehensive work delves into the transformative efforts and successes in agrifood systems across diverse regions, showcasing five stories that illustrate how countries are gradually moving away from linear ways of thinking and working to adopt elements of a systems approach to steer ongoing agrifood systems transformations towards greater social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The five stories narrate the changes observed by different partners at the system level in their countries – in terms of mindsets, power dynamics, relations and structures – and explore the factors that enabled these changes as well as obstacles to further process.

The publication serves as both a source of inspiration and a practical guide for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders worldwide. It underscores the need for continuous efforts and collaboration to advance agrifood systems transformation in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The publication is a result of collaborative efforts under two significant FAO initiatives: the Food and Nutrition Security Impact, Resilience, Sustainability, and Transformation (FIRST) programme and the Sustainable Food Systems in the Mediterranean (SFS-MED) initiative. These initiatives have been instrumental in accompanying governments, civil society organizations and other development partners on their journey of agrifood systems transformation.
