Join partners of the Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI) at the 2024 American Geophysical Union (AGU24) session "Land cover change and its impacts in GHG fluxes." The AGU24 is taking place from 9 to 13 December 2024 in Washington, D.C., United States of America.

Organized as a U.S. contribution to the GFOI Research and Development (R&D) Coordination Component and focused on land cover and greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring, this session will be jointly led by the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as well as the World Resources Institute (WRI). It will include perspectives from SilvaCarbon, SERVIR and WRI.

The main objective of this session is to present state-of-the art data and other resources options to end-users interested in GHG fluxes due to land cover change. It will showcase the perspectives of multiple programmes with active efforts in monitoring land use change, including deforestation, forest degradation and the associated impacts on GHG emissions and removals. The discussions will focus on how GFOI partners are building the capacities of decision makers, generating services and tools that provide information, and producing new and relevant datasets.
