Book (series)Lumpy skin disease – A manual for veterinarians 2017
Also available in:
The Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a viral disease of cattle that has dramatic effects on rural livelihoods, which strongly dependent on cattle. The disease slashes milk production and may lead sterility in bulls and fertility problems in females. It damages hides, and causes death due to secondary bacterial infections. Although traditionally limited to sub-Saharan Africa, LSD has slowly been invading new territories such as the Middle East and Turkey, and since 2015, most of the Balkan countries, the Caucasus and the Russian Federation, where the disease continues to spread and the risk of an imminent incursion into other unaffected countries, is very high. Veterinarians, cattle farmers, and others along the value chain are facing the disease for first time and are unfamiliar with LSD’s clinical presentation, its transmission routes and the available prevention and control options. This manual aims to fill these gaps by providing veterinary professionals and paraprofessionals with the information they need to promptly diagnose and react to an outbreak of LSD. Cattle farmers will also benefit from reading it. -
Book (series)The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2024
Financing to end hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms
2024Six years from 2030, hunger and food insecurity trends are not yet moving in the right direction to end hunger and food insecurity (SDG Target 2.1) by 2030. The indicators of progress towards global nutrition targets similarly show that the world is not on track to eliminate all forms of malnutrition (SDG Target 2.2). Billions of people still lack access to nutritious, safe and sufficient food. Nevertheless, progress in many countries provides hope of the possibility of getting back on track towards hunger and malnutrition eradication. Implementing the policies, investments and legislation needed to revert the current trends of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition requires proper financing for food security and nutrition. Despite a broad agreement on the urgent need to increase financing for food security and nutrition, the same cannot be said for a common understanding regarding how this financing should be defined and tracked. The report provides a long-awaited definition of financing for food security and nutrition and guidance for its implementation. There are recommendations regarding the efficient use of innovative financing tools and reforms to the food security and nutrition financing architecture. Establishing a common definition of financing for food security and nutrition, and methods for its tracking, measurement and implementation, is an important first step towards sustainably increasing the financing flows needed to end hunger, food insecurity and all forms of malnutrition, and to ensure access to healthy diets for all, today and tomorrow. -

BookletInnovative funding mobilization and financing mechanisms of fisheries and aquaculture value chains
Exploring the contribution of aquatic food value chains to global food systems transformation
2025Also available in:
No results found. The paper identifies innovative funding mobilization and financing mechanisms for fisheries and aquaculture value chains (FAVCs), and the contribution of the FISH4ACP programme in facilitating these mechanisms. The paper is informed by: a review of literature including FISH4ACP programme reports on funding mobilization and financing mechanisms of FAVCs; and an analysis of primary data collected from coordinators of 12 VCs being supported by the FISH4ACP programme. Literature and results from the analysis show that traditional sources of funding are no longer adequate and sustainable, while investments required to transform the FAVCs are significant, with a resulting huge funding gap. Despite the emergence of innovative funding mechanisms such as blended finance, which a few developing countries like Seychelles and Indonesia are using to finance the development of their FAVCs, the FISH4ACP programme countries have so far continued to use traditional funding sources. -
Policy briefDevelopment finance for gender equality and women’s empowerment in agrifood systems 2025
Also available in:
No results found.Investing in gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) in agrifood systems is vital for equitable growth, yet funding for GEWE projects has plateaued. This brief, part of a series of policy briefs on Financing for Development, explores the funding landscape for GEWE projects. Climate finance often overlooks GEWE, despite its importance. Gender bonds offer a promising solution, but better tracking systems are needed. Collaboration between donors and private investors can boost funding, creating significant impacts on food security, poverty reduction, and inclusive development.
