Anrooy, R. van; De Young, C. (comps.) ABSTRACT This document contains the proceedings of the Sixteenth Annual Conference of the European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE) which was held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 5 to 7 April 2004. The purpose of the conference was to provide a forum for the dissemination of recent advances in capture fisheries and aquaculture economics and management and to promote discussion among researchers, managers, policy- makers and other stakeholders in the fisheries sector. It aimed at contributing to the following EAFE objectives: to promote cooperation in research in fisheries and aquaculture; to assist in the dissemination of information about fisheries economics among members; and to understand further the economics of fisheries and aquaculture. During the conference 63 presentations were given, addressing a wide variety of issues grouped into the following six themes: 1) World Trade Organization negotiations with specific reference to market access and fishery subsidies issues; 2) Ecological and environmental interactions with the economics of fisheries; 3) Impact of fisheries management decisions on fisheries; 4) European research issues; 5) Fisheries development and employment; and 6) Industry issues. |
