"Requin" tongs. - Tongs consist of two shells in sheet iron fitted with teeth and attached to each other by a very strong hinge. When the special chain is pulled the two shells tend to close on each other, and the greater the traction forge, the harder the teeth bite into the wood. Tongs can grip logs of 2 3/8 to 31½ in (6 to 80 cm) in diem. The rounded shape enables the tongs to slide along the ground easily.
