Newsum test rig. - The Newsum test rig PR.3T has been specially developed to give daily quality control tests on glued joints in bending or in shear. The load beam is mounted on the proving ring, held between roller guides, and the load is applied by hydraulic ram. The proving ring is rated at 3 tons maximum, and mounted between ball pivots to ensure complete freedom. The hydraulic ram allows a 5 in (12 cm) beam travel, and is controlled by a hand-operated single piston pump. Overall height 46 in (120 cm), overall width 32 in (80 cm). Figure shows a finger joint sample at the point of failure under bending stress.
