Chapter 9 presents the outlook for wood energy, prepared on the basis of an enquiry to national correspondents. The methodology and definitions of the enquiry are presented in the study. This Working Paper presents the data by country as used for the analysis at the European level in the study.
Fourteen replies were received, of which not all were complete. However, most of the major consumers of wood for energy did reply, so the results do provide a valid basis for scenario building. No effort was made to estimate missing data except for fuelwood, for which it was essential to have data by country for the consistency analysis. For fuelwood, the situation and outlook was estimated on the basis of data for neighbouring and similar countries and replies to earlier enquiries. These estimates are set out in the relevant table. For other assortments, very rough estimates were made at the country group level, mostly on the basis of the ETTS IV work. Care was taken to ensure that the totals were comparable over time (in some cases, estimates are not shown, but they have been incorporated into the regional and European totals.
