36. The workshop reiterated the recommendation emanating from the regional survey on Shellfish Culture in Southeast Asia organized in 1986 jointly by SEAFDEC and IFREMER in collaboration with ESCAP that in consideration of the different levels of development of mollusc culture in each country, special attention should be paid to the selection of culture sites, environment quality, culture techniques, harvesting, sanitary control, handling, processing and marketing.
37. In this regard, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and other concerned European countries could act through the EEC to work with NACA and other regional organizations on programmes on the setting up of a specific project following the recommendations of this workshop and complementary with the extension of the Seafarming Development and Demonstration Project.
