6. ADOPTION OF REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE WORKSHOP

The Workshop considered the findings of the Ad Hoc Committee and after some discussion, the records of the Committee as set out above were unanimously adopted.

During discussions, concern was expressed by the participants from member countries as to the required followup actions to be taken on the recommendations of the Workshop. The South China Sea Fisheries Development and Coordinating Programme was requested to continue its assistance in the implementation of the stated development strategies. Member countries further unanimously requested the Programme to continue to serve as their technical arm and also to coordinate actions for the region.

The Workshop therefore, recommends:

  1. that in the conduct of any and all future small-scale, rural capture fishery and aquaculture development undertakings, priority considerations be given to existing needs of the country and the communities concerned;

  2. that in the implementation of each of the identified strategies/actions, the continuing assistance of the South China Sea Fisheries Development and Coordinating Programme will be required; and

  3. that for evaluation purposes, a regular follow-up meeting on an annual basis be considered.
