I. TRAINING COURSES

Four training courses were carried out in Andasibe (Analamazaotra) Experimental Fish Station. Each course last 9 days long including about 70 hours mostly practical training. The courses were managed as follows : after a short theoretical introduction and necessary explanation for the understanding, practical work followed according to the scheduled propagation activity. The most important practices as preparing the injected solutions, stitching in the females, administering the injections, etc… were practiced beforehand on dummies.

The topic of the course was prepared beforehand (see APPENDIX No 1A.) and the trainees have opportunity to copy the tables, drawings and other important parts in their free time. The important practices and theoretical parts were discussed also repeatedly. The discussions were led by the trained-in-the topic interpreter in malagasy language. The course was lectured in english translated simultaneously into malagasy (using also the special french expressions) for the interest of better understand.

There were discussed the main activities of the fish culture during the course time. For example the production process in the pond, stocking the ponds, manuring, fertilizing, food and feeding of the fish, growth and growth rate, utilisation of the food etc… These themes were treated first of all in practical point of view according to the circumstances in Madagascar.

The number of trainees was limited to 7–8 persons per course, to facilitate the personal connections, practical works, controll and oversee the trainees' activities.

Training course was observed at 15–23 October, 11–20 November, 2–11 December 1979, and 7–15 January 1980.

The consultant travelled 1–2 days earlier to the Station to prepare the courses.

Alltogether 30 trainees took part on the courses.

Although the courses were observed out of the main spawning season of the common carp, there were ever enough breeders, eggs, fry, fingerlings (this last from the previous propagation) etc… to demonstrate and train of the different manipulations on the subjects.

The subject-matter of the course with explanations in drawings see APPENDIX No 1A., 1B.
