to gain a better and more detailed understanding of the key problems within the Asian region in providing improved income-generating opportunities for the rural disabled in agricultural and agro-industry systems;
to prepare an FAO strategy paper and set of practical recommendations aimed at increasing the income-generating capacities of the sensorial, motor and mentally disabled rural people in the region;
to actively participate in the RICAP 14th Session of the Sub-Committee on Disability-related Concerns summarizing FAO's strategies and recommendations; and
to explore the potential for inter-agency collaboration with ESCAP and other UN and non-government organizations in improving the conditions of the rural disabled in the region.
In essence, the Meeting aimed to promote the creation of a disability-sensitive environment and framework for the planning, working and training opportunities and special actions needed for the employment of rural disabled people in the region. Conclusions and recommendations for the further development of policies and regulations towards the disabled in agricultural and agro-industry systems were generated.
