CHAIRMAN: Before proceeding I would wish you to know that I regard it as a considerable honour to have been elected Vice-Chairman of this Commission and to have the privilege of occupying the Chair for this session of the Commission.

There are some announcements. Firstly, I am pleased to inform the Commission that the Contact Group established to discuss the proposed resolutions on food security and on international agricultural adjustment have successfully concluded their work. The text of the draft resolutions as agreed upon by the Contact Groups will be included in the Commission's draft report that will come up for adoption on Monday of next week. The resolution proposed by a number of African countries on the food situation in Africa will be distributed this afternoon. I propose that this resolution be discussed tomorrow morning before the Commission moves on to the next item on the Agenda.
