��MALAWI

The FAO/WFP Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission estimated the 2004 cereal production at 1.84 million tonnes, 14 percent below last year�s near-normal level. Imports of cereals are estimated at 408�000 tonnes, of which maize accounts for 358�000 tonnes for 2004/05 marketing year. A significant amount of cross-border maize imports, particularly from Mozambique, are expected. Food aid of 50�000 tonnes is recommended.
