ABSTRACT

Sixteen participants, from ten countries (Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand) attended a Training Course in Fish Feed Technology held in Seattle, State of Washington, U.S.A. The Course was organized and conducted by the FAO/UNDP Aquaculture Development and Coordination Programme in collaboration with the College of Fisheries, University of Washington.

Training activities included lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, country problems discussions and field visits. Eighty-two lectures on subjects dealing with: digestion anatomy and physiology, nutritional bio-energetics and biochemistry, feed-stuffs, feed formulation, feed milling technology, practical diets and quality control, were presented by specialists. All the participants described the status of intensive aquaculture in their respective countries and the constraints on its development with particular reference to feed supply and diet development.
