Industrial fishery at sea
Togos coastline is very limited in length (40 miles) and in width (15 to 20 miles) The small area of the bottom affects the size of the resources directly. To our knowledge, no specialized fishery takes place nowadays off this country.
Artisanal fishery in the lagoons
An artisanal fishery exists in Togo, in estuaries. The channels linking the estuaries to the sea close in the dry season, thus trapping the shrimps and then creating a favourable condition for the artisanal fishery. In the rainy season, the channels open again, which allows the biological cycle of shrimps to continue. No assessment of artisanal catches could be made.
