The male should be about two years old, 50 cm total length (TL) and weigh 2.5 kg. The female should be at least three years old and weigh about 3.5 kg. However, from experience a size of between 70 and 100 cm TL or weight of 4.5–12.5 kg gives better results.
A full-grown spawner of 70–100 cm TL and weighing 7–10 kg yields approximately 200 000– 400 000 eggs. A male of about 70–80 cm TL can give about 4.5 cc of milt.
