Appendix 2
SAMPLE TABULATIONS FROM CONSUMER SURVEY IN FOUR LARGEST CITIES,

MAY 1985, SURVEY RESEARCH, INDONESIA

  1. This volume contains the results of questions on fish consumption included on the SRI Omnibus Survey conducted during May 1985.

  2. This document contains the computer tables for the four cities surveyed - Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan and Bandung.

  3. Interviewing was conducted among a random sample of approximately 1 600 A, B, C, D households in the four cities. Lower economic class households were filtered out on the basis of a question on household expenditure. In all selected households the person responsible for making the purchasing decisions was interviewed.

  4. The analysis of this survey is carried out by SRI on inhouse computer facilities. At the analysis stage, a weighting process is introduced to gross-up the sample values to population values. Thus, the figures given in the tables are weighted sample value, i.e., adjusted to reflect the profile of the housewives in each city.

  5. The following features of the tables warrant comment:

    1. The top line of figures in each table shows the weighted sample on which the percentages are based (in thousands).

    2. An asterisk in a table indicates that the percentage is less than 0.5%.

    3. A blank cell indicates nil.

    4. Percentages in the tables sometimes add up to more or slightly less than the ‘base-line’ value (i.e., 100%) due to the rounding process used by the computer either when applying the weights, or when calculating the percentages to the nearest 1%.

  6. The following population projections for A, B, C, D class households in 1985 have been used for each city.
