The overall objective of the expedition was to survey the area from Sierra Leone to Ghana, in order to obtain biological data to assist in the assessment of the demersal stocks in those countries' waters. The objectives were to:
Estimate the yields of the major demersal species of commercial interest and the associated fauna;
Determine the geographical and bathymetrical distribution of the main species;
Obtain the size distributions of the fish and crustacean stocks of commercial interest likely to be caught by the gear used;
Contribute to knowledge on the biology of the species of commercial interest: sex-ratio, sexual maturity, breeding habits, growth, etc.;
Obtain biological material from species of commercial interest (otoliths, stomach contents);
Conserve species for fauna collections;
Photograph the species in the fresh state.
