The training manual "Implications of Economic Policy For Food Security" is the result of a joint effort of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit, GTZ. The authors of this manual, Ms Anne Thomson and Mr Manfred Metz, worked in close collaboration between themselves and with the Agricultural Policy Support Service (TCAS) of FAO. Mr Franco Viciani has directed the project and Mr Carlo Cappi has provided technical guidance throughout the preparation of the manual. Special thanks are directed to Mr K. Pilgram of GTZ, who has provided continuing support to the project, and to Prof. L. Smith and Prof. M. Gorgoni, who contributed to the preparation of the outline and that read and commented on different drafts of the manual. An important contribution was also made by the participants in the expert consultation, which was held in Rome on 11 and 12 April 1996 to discuss the draft of the manual before its finalisation, and by the trainees who have attended the Regional Training Seminar on Food and Agriculture Policy Analysis, held in Ankara in September 1996, where the manual was first tested.
