4. PROJECTED WOOD FUEL USE BY HOUSEHOLD FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS (1999-2008)

Previous researchers have predicted the growth rate of Monrovia at 5-6% per year between 1983-1993. This estimate can be taken at 4-5 percent per year due to the effect of the seven years war on the population. This may likely rise to previous rate within the next two years as more Liberians return home for resettlement. The production and supply of woodfuel to households are also increasing after the civil crisis. Considering factors such as good security, normal economic condition, political stability etc. consumption is predicted for the next ten years, using 1998 as a base at 7% growth rate. (See Table 9)
