METHODOLOGY

In order to provide adequate data for factual information, the following methods were employed:

Some random sample plots were set up in Monrovia, Kakata, Buchanan, Harper, Tubmanburg and Robertsport. Of the twenty-four (24) sample plots, ten households within each site were interviewed, and information recorded.

Arrangements were made with FDA forest products monitoring officers at the various checkpoints and wood processing site and weekly data was recorded and analysed.

Major consumers such as Bakeries, Fish-driers, Brake Bakers, cooks and restaurants in Monrovia, Kakata, Firestone, Buchanan, etc. were consulted.

Four earthen kilns were carbonated at the CBN Sawmill in Gardnersville, Montserrado County, to determine the relationship between wood and its carbonated output in charcoal.
