INTRODUCTION

As agricultural extension services are called upon to provide meaningful support to food security initiatives, they need to be transformed into a viable partner to fit in a pluralistic, multi-disciplinary and integrated effort involving many sectors, both public and private. This booklet offers a new vision comprising policy directions for that very transformation of extension. Its contents have been drawn from a major paper, "Agricultural Extension, Rural Development and Food Security Challenge", written by the same authors. We hope that this user-friendly version on a very important subject will be useful for senior decision while thinking about achieving sustainable food security and reaching this goal, working within the arena of multiple actors.
