One of the most-cited articles from Unasylva deals with the then-new term “pluralism”, which recognizes that in forest management there may be many groups with an interest in the forest but with conflicting – yet valid – views.
When this article was published, Jon Anderson was Forestry Extension Officer and Jean Clément was Director of the Forest Resources Division, FAO Forestry Department, Rome. Loy Van Crowder was Senior Officer, Communication for Development, Research Extension and Training Division, Sustainable Development Department, FAO, Rome. Anderson is now with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Clément passed away in 2003 (see Unasylva No. 213, p. 63). Crowder is still with FAO, in the Research and Extension Unit of the Natural Resources Management and Environment Department.
