Definitions for Forest Plantations adopted

Forest stands with a crown density of at least 10% or, at least, 7m height established artificially by afforestation on land which previously did not carry forest; forest stands established artificially by reforestation on land which carried out forest within the previous 50 years or within living memory and involving the replacement of the previous crop by a new and essentially different crop.

Industrial plantations are defined as those for production of wood for industry (saw-logs, veneer-logs pulpwood and pitprops). Those grown for fuelwood, charcoal, domestic consumption, non-wood products and soil protection are considered non-industrial plantations.
All plantations established for the production of gum arabic are considered as non-industrial. Rubber, palm oil and coconut plantations are not considered as forest plantations.
Plantations do not include stands established by artificial regeneration and essentially similar to those they are replacing.

Forest stands with a crown density of at least 10% or, at least, 5m height, established artificially by afforestation on land which previously did not carry forest; forest stands established artificially by reforestation on land which carried out forest within the previous 50 years or within living memory and involving the replacement of the previous crop by a new and essentially different crop.
Plantations are also classified into:
Industrial when established totally or partly for production of wood for industry mainly as saw-logs and veneer-logs, pulpwood and pitprops.
Non-industrial when established mainly for one or several of the following objectives:
Production of fuelwood or wood for charcoal (possibly as industrial energy source)
Production of small wood for domestic consumption (in particular rural plantations)
Non-wood products and soil protection

Forest stands with a crown density of at least 10% or, at least, 5m height established by planting or/and seeding in the process of afforestation or reforestation. They are either:
of introduced species (all planted stands),
or intensively managed stands of indigenous species, which meet all the following criteria: one or two species at plantation, even age class, regular spacing.
Forest plantations include:
industrial plantation, forest plantations raised for industrial roundwood;
rubber or coconut, rubber or oil palm established for the production of wood or fiber products;
fuelwood plantations;
forest plantations established for environmental and other purposes.
New plantations are defined as afforestation for artificial establishment of forest on lands which previously did not carry forest within the last 10 years and reforestation for artificial establishment of forest on lands which carried forest before.
