At the Sixth Session of the Council the representative of the United Kingdom drew attention to the desirability of defining the terms of reference of the European Commission on Forestry and Forest Products.
After considering a note by the Director-General on this subject (C49/II/18), and having heard the views of the representative of the United Kingdom, the Council has come to the conclusion that this matter might appropriately be studied by the Conference, in order both to eliminate the possibility of overlapping the work of other regional bodies and to ensure the proper discharge of FAO's responsibilities in the fields concerned.
In this connection, the Council has expressed its appreciation of the successful cooperation which the Director-General has maintained with the Timber Committee of ECE.
