Based on the results and conclusions of the survey, it is recommended that:
the development of fishery production in the reservoirs of the surveyed areas should be encouraged.
the active involvement of women, youth and young men from the communities around the surveyed area in the exploitation of the reservoirs should be encouraged.
low cost fish processing methods, especially sun-drying, should be investigated as a way of generating cash incomes for rural households and contributing to the solution of storage problems of fresh fish in rural areas.
as households have shown that they like the taste of ‘fish and chips’, demonstrations on ways to gut freshly caught fish, methods of filleting fish and improved sun drying should be carried out.
Fisheries Section in cooperation with the Bureau of Youth and Women's Affairs, extend the coverage of the survey in order to broaden existing knowledge on the demand for fresh fish and ducks in Lesotho. Suggested areas are urban centres and rural areas where reservoirs exist but where there has been no history of fish culture. It is recommended that the revised interview schedule, contained in Appendix 5, should be used.
