Appendix 3:
A) RANKING OF CRITERIA LEADING TO SUCCESSFUL FISH FARMING, SUBIRA VILLAGE

  1. The fish farmer should have a good pond. A good pond has three pipes: one inlet pipe, one outlet pipe and a draining pipe at the bottom.
  2. Feeding twice per week.
  3. Applying manure whenever the water changes from greenish colour to transparent.
  4. The pond should have shadows from trees, grass and bananas around the pond.
  5. There should be an extra pond for reproducing fingerlings.
  6. To clean the pond and change water once per year.
  7. To have a net for harvesting fish.

B) RANKING OF CRITERIA LEADING TO SUCCESSFUL FISH FARMING, IHANDA VILLAGE

  1. To have the capacity to feed the fish (to feed frequently).
  2. To manure the pond.
  3. To have a thermometer to measure the temperature of the water.
  4. To have enough water.
  5. To clean around the pond.
  6. To control predators by using traps and a fence in the pond.
  7. Harvesting fish using net.
  8. To drain the pond in order to clean it.
  9. To add new fingerlings.
