I. INTRODUCTION

The consultant visited Zambia between 13 and 29 September 1992. His mission was to advise on the control of introduced species of aquatic animals in accordance with the rules of the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC) on these introductions. He was also to make recommendations on the subject within the framework of the aquaculture policy of Zambia's Department of Fisheries.

The consultant's Terms of Reference are given in Annex I, his itinerary in Annex II, a list of persons and institutions visited in Annexures III and IV.

The introductions and translocations observed indicated the need for control of Lake Kariba fisheries. Therefore a short visit was made to Kariba and to Kariba Fish Farms, and to ALCOM's office in Harare (30 September – 2 October 1992).
