(ii) Medium to Good Density Natural Forests: Above FMP, 1992 figures represent closed forests outside the Protected Areas and Coastal Afforestation Division only. The FMP, 1992 does not provide information on closed forest within protected areas and simply totals the area of park and sanctuaries (protected areas). For 1999, the FRA 2000 Table No. 5 provides information. It estimates extent of about 117,858 ha of closed forests within the protected areas but in the above table, for comparison purposes, protected areas in above table include closed forests.
(iii) Other forest areas: It includes poor density forests, scatter trees, Bamboo, open forests, shrubs, and forest fallow. In above 1992 figures from FMP, 1992 , "other forest areas" of parks and sanctuaries (Protected Areas) are not included. Therefore for providing comparable information 1999 figures in above table flow from FRA 2000 Table No. 5 and do not segregate such areas (35,576 ha) lying within protected areas.
(iv) Plantations: FMP, 1992 provides information for 1992. For the year 1999, FRA 2000 Table 8 columns 8 and Table 13 provide information. Hill Plantations figure include plantation over 51,900 ha of USF land.
(v) Plantations in Coastal Areas: FMP, 1992 provides information for the year 1992 . The FRA 2000 Table No. 14 provides information for 1999.
(vi) Plantation in Protected Areas: FMP Provide information for 1992. The FRA 2000 Table No. 14 provides this information for 1999.
(vii) Protected Area (parks and sanctuaries): The FMP, 1992 figures include only one (East with 32,326 ha) of the three (East, West, and South with total area of 84,542 ha) sanctuaries proposed in Sunderban. Therefore, FRA 2000 based information in the above table segregates the proposed protected area of Sunderbans into two categories ("East" Sunderban Wildlife Sanctuary, and "West and South" Sunderban Wildlife Sanctuaries). The area of each protected area includes all types of forest (closed, open ,shrub, fallow forest and other area etc.) but excludes plantations.
(viii) Forest under non-forestry use: It includes majority of USF forests, blanks, and encroached areas. It includes 3,086 ha of blanks in Sal Plain Forest. Basically it is the difference between forests department figures of forest land and the area classified in above categories.
