OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide a forum for updating nutritionists in the region on global developments in functional foods; and
  2. To seek views on specific areas of concern and interest, including attributes of functional foods, substantiation of functional and health claims, potential in health promotion, regulatory requirements, safety considerations and communications to the public and research and development activities.
  3. To make recommendations on these key areas of concern and future activities and focus

  1. Overview of global developments in functional foods
  2. Review of country status on functional foods
  3. Discussion on various aspects of functional foods, especially nutritional considerations
  4. Make recommendations on key areas of concern and future activities and focus
  5. Any other matters

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

* Have better understanding of global status of functional foods, particularly in the Asia and Pacific Region

* Common understanding on key issues regarding functional foods, with particular reference to impact on daily diet

* Recommendations on specific areas of interest and concern

* Recommendations for future activities and focus
