4. MARKETING OF LAGOON PRODUCTION

-   With the exception of eels,, there are no separate marketings systems for lagoon fish. The usual producer wholesaler retailer sequence prevails, except for local marketing, which can be direct (to hotels, restaurants, etc …) or only by retail. Mark-ups are officially controlled by the government, but often demand pressure has the upperhand. For the eel production of most lagoons,l auction sales are held on the premises of PASEGES at the HQ's in Athens at pre-established date. The cooperatives are represented by PASEGES; the highest bidder collects the negotiated quantity usually at the respective lagoon and takes care of the transport. Eels are transported live, other species usually, but not always in ice, neither gutte nor scale.
