SUMMARY

The report gives an account of the survey of the Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan, for coastal aquaculture. The observations made on topographical features, weather conditions, tidal fluctuations, primary productivity, nature of soil, plankton, intertidal biota, fish seed availability and the fishes appearing in commercial catches have been described.

The results of preliminary investigations conducted in test pits, and on the settlement and growth of oysters are reported.

On the basis of the observations made, suggestions for taking up detailed studies to determine the abundance, seasonal variations and distribution of the seed of fin fish and shell fish, and feasibility studies for culturing oysters in selected regions of the gulf have been indicated.
