Eighteen mangroves sites have been identified in Santa Lucia. Five species of mangrove are present; among these Rhizophora mangle, Laguncularia racemosa and Avicennia germinans cover relatively large areas of well developed forest. Mangroves are sometimes associated with Pterocarpus officinalis. There are 12 protected areas with mangroves in S. Lucia.
