GUM ACACIAS

The International Association for the Development of Hydrocolloids (AIDRHO) held its first Annual General Assembly at Rouen on 31 October 1975. Among the 18 participants were representatives from six developing African countries.

The purpose of AIDRHO is to coordinate the work of researchers in all disciplines related to gum (botany, forestry, agronomy, chemistry, physiology) for the good of countries concerned with gum production.

Among other projects, AIDRHO seeks to coordinate exchange, collection and distribution of seed of gum acacias, through the provision of seed bank services. The species of interest are Acacia senegal (syn. A. vereck), A. laeta, A. campylacantha, A. mellifera, A. seyal and A. sieberiana.

The address of AIDRHO is:

129 Chemin de Croisset
B.P. No. 551
76006 Rouen, France.

For a recent publication on Gum Acacias by P. Giffard, see the note “Recent and Forthcoming Publications of Interest” in this issue.
