PROGRAMME OF THE INTRODUCTION OF SPECIES AND PROVENANCES OF EUCALYPTUS spp. IN BRAZIL

The above Report has recently (1977) been prepared by I.B.D.F. 1 It summarises preliminary results of a programme of species and provenance introductions presently carried out by several research institutes and forest industries in Brazil.
In the past, provenances of more than 80 different species of eucalypts have been introduced and tested in Brazil. Species of which more than 20 provenances have been tested include: E. alba, E. brassiana, E. camaldulensis, E. cloeziana, E. grandis, E. microcorys, E. pilularis, E. saligna, E. tereticornis and E. urophylla.
In the report a number of provenances of a total of 17 species are recommended for 10 bioclimatic regions of the country, distinguished according to altitude, temperature (mean and minimum temperatures, number of frosts), and rainfall (mean annual rainfall, rainfall pattern).
