PACKAGING OF FRUIT

During collection, Prosopis fruit is generally put into buckets or into sacks hanging from the collectors' shoulders, or dropped onto tarpaulins placed on the ground.

The fruit is then emptied into paper, burlap, or cloth packaging bags (like those used to package sand or cement), and finally, transported to the point of seed extraction.

For ease of handling, no more than 20 kilograms of fruit should be emptied into a single packaging bag.

As mentioned above, each seedlot should be carefully labelled and detailed information regarding origin should be recorded for each collection on a collection form (Appendix 1). Duplicate labels should always be attached outside and placed inside the packaging bag. By placing a label inside the bag, positive identification of the collection is assured if the outside label is lost.
