CURRENT SITUATION


Following widespread and regular rains since early July, precipitation decreased in the north in September and ceased in mid-October. Strong rains were still registered in the south in October benefiting the second maize crop. Coarse grains are being harvested in the north. Reflecting generally favourable growing conditions during the rainy season, an average to above-average harvest is anticipated. The overall food supply situation is satisfactory. Some population, however, remain vulnerable following flooding in Sokoto area in the north-west.
