OPENING OF THE SESSION

2. The Task Force was welcomed to Copenhagen by Mr Poul Ottosen, the Permanent Secretary of the Danish Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. In his opening remarks to the Session, the Permanent Secretary noted the importance of the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Codex Task Force on Animal Feeding as the appropriate international forum to set principles on good animal feeding in the wider long term perspective of a global food safety system. He emphasized the essential role of industry in providing consumers with wholesome and nutritious food products. The Permanent Secretary noted that adequate labelling requirements could help to ensure the traceability of feedingstuffs as a means to control cases of food hazard outbreaks throughout the food chain. The Permanent Secretary expressed his best wishes to the Task Force for a successful meeting, including the consideration of the Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding.
