A one day field trip on the third day took participants to Selingué to visit the irrigated scheme and the integration of aquaculture activities into the distribution and drainage network components. The problems appeared to be more institutional and organisational than technical. Fish farmers are not represented in water user groups and are not organised to communally manage water resources under equitable and sustainable sharing arrangements. Thus, they do not have formal access to land and irrigation water for fish production and do not participate in key decision-making related to water resources management.
