Hundred and Twenty-third Session

MEMBERSHIP OF THE WFP EXECUTIVE BOARD

 

1. In accordance with Resolution 6/99 adopted by the 30th Session of the FAO Conference on 13 November 1999, the Council is required to elect six members of the WFP Executive Board for a term of office of three years from among FAO Member Nations.

2. For purposes of election to the Board, FAO Member Nations are divided into five separate lists (A, B, C, D and E) as shown in Appendix A to this document.

3. The present composition of the WFP Executive Board is as follows, with the List (as per Appendix A) to which each member belongs indicated in brackets:

4. The Council will therefore be required to elect six members, for a term of office expiring on 31 December 2005 to replace the ones whose terms end on 31 December 2002, i.e. Egypt (A); Madagascar (A); Norway (D); Peru (C); Romania (E) and Switzerland (D).

5. It should be recalled that the Council at its Hundred and Twenty-second Session agreed that after Portugal had stood down on 31 December 2001, it would be replaced by Norway for the year 2002.

6. The Council will also recall being informed at its Hundred and Twenty-second Session that Iraq had decided to relinquish the seat it had obtained from the FAO Council for the period January 2001 to December 2003, while maintaining the seat obtained from ECOSOC for the period January 2002 to December 2004. The Council was also informed that Syria would complete the remaining two years of office of the seat (January 2002 to December 2003).

7. Outgoing members are eligible for re-election.

8. A nomination form is given in Appendix B to this document, and the deadline for submission of nominations to the Secretary General of the Council is 12.00 hours on Wednesday 30 October 2002.
