Near East and North Africa’s Water Scarcity Initiative

About the event: The event will start at 13:30 hours with an Opening Statement by the Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa (FAORNE), followed by a panel discussion that will include the following representatives:

  • Dr. Essam Khalifa, Sector Head, Office of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Egypt
  • H.E. Ambassador Shahira Wahbi, Chief of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation, League of Arab States
  • Dr. Mahmoud Solh, Director General, International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA)
  • Mr. Clayton Campanhola, Coordinator, Strategic Objective 2: Make agriculture, forestry and fisheries more productive and sustainable, and Director FAO’s Plant Production and Protection Division (AGP)

The panel will be moderated by Mr. Mohamed Manssouri, Chief of Europe, Central Asia, Near East North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean Service (TCIC) in FAO’s Investment Centre.

The event will last one hour and will close at 14.30 hours. 

FAO’s Regional Office for Near East and North Africa (FAORNE) will be offering light refreshments (food and drinks) to the attendees from 14:30 onwards in the Flag Hall.

Purpose: The side event will showcase FAO's achievements and provide evidence on how the Organization has brought about changes or impacted developing countries and the global community.
