ASEM summit leaders unite in support of nutrition and ICN2
During the tenth annual Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Milan, Italy, on 16-17 October, discussions focused on the theme of “Responsible Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Security”. The meeting brought together more than 50 European and Asian leaders to discuss the enlarging scope of the Europe-Asia relationship. In addition to hosting the event, Italy played an active and successful role in fostering the discussion around food and nutrition security. President of the European Council and Chair of the summit, Herman Van Rompuy, noted in his Chair’s Statement that “Leaders look forward to the 2nd International Conference on Nutrition to be held in Rome, Italy, in November 2014 and to Milan 2015 EXPO themed “Feeding the Planet-Energy for Life”. Leaders also collectively emphasized the urgent need to increase efforts to address food security and agriculture development across all sectors at the national, regional and international levels.
