Sustaining food security in the developing world: the top five policy challenges

Année: 2003
Auteur(s): Prabhu Pingali
This paper presents what I see as the top five policy challenges for global food security. The five are not presented in any particular order they are all equally important as we look ahead over the next 20, 25 year time period. The five challenges are: i) provisioning the urban masses especially the urban poor with adequate amounts of food and nutrition; ii) eliminating rural poverty and attacking the problem of chronic food insecurity; iii) repositioning developing country agriculture in the context of globalization; iv) dealing with rising transactions costs of technology access and technology use; and v) sustainably managing the natural resource base.
