A Recipe for Disaster: Globalised food systems, structural inequality and COVID-19

The Transnational Institute (TNI) organized this webinar that took place on 15 April 2020 at 4 PM CESTRob Wallace in dialogue with agrarian justice activists from Myanmar, Indonesia, Palestine and Germany has laid out an alternative explanation for the rise and spread of COVID-19 to that presented in mainstream media that embeds the ever-increasing emergence of deadly pathogens within global circuits of capital and with a special focus on the role of agriculture.

The webinar aims to put this “helicopter” perspective on the origins and spread into dialogue with reflections from political justice activists on the different ways it is impacting people around the world and through the food system.

What different circumstances do people around the world face, and how will these impact ongoing struggles for more just food systems and societies? And, by extension, what does this tell us about the kind of resistant and resilient systems we need to build to replace our current food system?
