World Environment Day 2020

FAO, with the participation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) , hosted the World Environment Day 2020 event “The Interface of Humans, Animals and the Environment” on Friday, 5 June 2020.

FAO recognizes the important role of ecosystem restoration for improving resilience in a changing climate and re‐establishing an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and humans. Ecosystem Restoration for production must be at the center of efforts to build back. FAO is, therefore, proud to be co-leading the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.  The virtual event on World Environment Day 2020 aimed to deepen discussion on the links between biodiversity, health and diseases transmission; food production and biodiversity management - trade-offs to reduce emerging infectious diseases; and ecosystem-based approaches to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. These three topics have been elaborated on by three Panels, with a focus on sharing FAO’s experiences in these areas.
