Agroecology and sustainable agricultural transitions: public procurement, certification and the export sector

This publication proposes strategies and guidelines for policies that will serve as concrete contributions to the National Agroecology Plan of Uruguay. For this purpose, it analyzes in-depth three strategic areas as public procurement, certification, and the agro-export sector.

To prepare this publication, interviews and workshops were held with the broad participation of institutions, producer groups, and representatives of the private sector, academia, and the Honorary Commission of the National Agroecology Plan.

The work was prepared within the Promoting Agroecological Transition initiative framework, carried out by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Uruguayan Center for Appropriate Technologies (CEUTA) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office.

This initiative aims to develop and communicate strategic recommendations and guidelines for policies and measures that will serve as concrete inputs for the National Agroecology Plan and possible transitions in the agro-export sector. It also seeks to contribute to a national debate on strategic changes in the Uruguayan agrifood system and the scaling up of sustainable production.
